About Jana Keith-Jennings, LMSW

Therapist

Jana Keith JenningMy philosophy…

Therapy is about being in relationship – not just between us as therapist and client. It’s about your relationship to your sense of self, thoughts, emotions, urges, desires, bodies, past, present, future, other people, larger social structures, the process of change, etc.

By building a deeper understanding of how we have learned to be in relationship with these parts of ourselves, we can accept and change them to improve or enhance our lives.

My primary job as a therapist is to create a dynamic relationship where you feel supported and safe enough to be curious about yourself. With that foundation, you can explore, understand, question, re-write, and practice new ways of thinking, feeling, and acting in the world.

My style…

My style is oriented toward knowledge and growth. In our sessions, I offer you a range of new ideas, facts, frameworks, and skills to help you understand and expand your thinking.

My style is also deeply informed by intersectional anti-oppressive theory, including feminist, queer, disability, gender, neurodiversity-affirming, and fat-liberation theories. I strive to operate from the perspective that my experience, knowledge, and training do not take precedence over your experience.

By working together, we can synthesize our perspectives to give you the best results.

My most important credentials and successes…

I specialize in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including Enhanced Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E) for eating disorders, Family-Based Therapy (FBT) for eating disorders, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (CBT-AR).

I also have training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Prolonged Exposure Therapy, a treatment for trauma and PTSD. These approaches are particularly dear to me, as I’ve seen what they can do to help those from trauma find the relief they deserve.

I recently completed training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and am excited to begin incorporating this approach into my work.

My top three qualities…

(1) Relentless empathy
(2) Radical genuineness
(3) Humor

Fun facts about me…

I have been practicing yoga and meditation since I first learned how to do it as a teenager in the 1990s.

I attended art school as an undergraduate and am still a practicing artist.

I was a pastry chef for 15 years before becoming a social worker. I have a deep love for food and cooking!
